Image changes to image sequence

I’m in the newest version of Templater.
I have a .jpg that I am setting up to be dynamically changed through my spreadsheet.
When I try to preview or cycle through to another row of data, my .jpg changes into an image sequence, and shrinks to 1 frame.
This is an AE project I had set up before updating to the latest release, and it worked before. Curious what is going on, or what I’m doing wrong now.

We’ve seen this issue come up once before. It mainly seems to be related to a scenario where images are labeled in sequence (image01.jpg, image02.jpg, etc.), and the import option in After Effects that reads “ImporterJPEG Sequence” is enabled. Let me lay out what we encountered previously, and hopefully, that will give you some insight into what’s happening here.
So there are two scenarios that we’ve seen that could explain this. The first is when an image is imported into After Effects with the “ImporterJPEG Sequence” checked. This creates an asset that’s a JPEG sequence instead of a static image. When this asset is dropped into the timeline, it reads as a single-frame media file as opposed to a JPEG. This causes the layer to shrink to one frame whenever the first image in the sequence is loaded. In this scenario, cycling through the Templater data to image02, image03, etc., causes the layer to revert to a static image since those other images aren’t read as a JPEG sequence.
In the alternate scenario, the project already uses image01, and the JPEG sequence is imported after the fact. In this case, Templater will check the project file for image01 when it’s loaded, find the JPEG sequence, and then swap it in, causing the layer to be switched with the 1-frame media file.
The easiest way to fix this issue is to search your project for any JPEG sequences that are present and then right-click and choose Replace Footage>File. From there, you’ll want to select the appropriate image file and ensure that the “ImporterJPEG Sequence” option is unchecked. This should replace the sequence with a static image, which should keep this from occurring in the future.

Unfortunately, neither option seems to be working for me.
I tried to replace the jpeg, and then I resorted to a clean import to ensure the JPEG Sequence wasn’t checked on.
It’s coming in as a single .jpeg file in my project, and will appear that way in the timeline until I try to change to a new cell row, then the photo changes to a sequence in the timeline, and becomes 1 frame long.
What other info can I provide to help?

@Jeff I just opened up an older version of this project in AE 2022, and it’s working as expected.
Wonder if there’s something in the new AE2023 that’s causing this to happen?

I just duplicated the 2022 project, and opened in 2023, and it appears to be working just fine. I must have had something wonky going on…thanks!

Glad to hear it! My guess is that something went wrong when the previous project was imported, and an asset was incorrectly reported as a JPEG sequence instead of a static image file. It’s possible that AE then cached that asset state, so every time the file was loaded, AE saw it as a sequence regardless of whether it was previously removed or not.
