I’ve had good luck speeding things up by setting up a clean master template in After Effects and piping in data through Templater so I’m not hand-tweaking every slide. Keeping layers named clearly saves a ton of headaches. I once worked with an event production company san francisco on a similar setup, and their approach of keeping assets modular made updates way easier without breaking the design flow.

@RyanB Glad to hear that you were able to track down the issue. I did some research and spoke with some of our devs, and I can confirm that all write operations for both replication and render actions should be completed before any “post_cmd_job” actions are run. If you have any other questions, please feel free to let us know. Thanks, Jeff

@ermalr To add to Jeff’s post, Templater ships with both Render Settings and Output Module templates that can add multiple pre-made presets. There are direction on this page on how to import them into After Effects.

@Jeff Thanks so much! That all makes perfect sense. I was quite pleased to have reasoned out the solution I did, so your confirmation that it matches your recommendation is all I needed!

@Jeff Thanks for getting back to me. I will investigate Event script. If only overlap in Templater time shift feathre could be adjusted with an expression in AE that would probably solve it… Will figure something out thanks once again best v.

Hi @Jeff, Thanks for the super speedy response! So I tried the expressions in that other link about highlighting text but it didn’t quite work (it was returning Error:“Can’t turn result into numeric value”). But it’s ok as it led me to an alternative but still perfectly effective solution! For more context: We have 13 different risk warnings (set as collumns) for each row of data (e.g. Bitcoin, Ethereum, etc) The way I have set this up is so that I simply change the name of the Risk Warning pre-composition in After Effects from one license to the next (i.e. changing the data collected from one collumn to another in the Google Sheet) which then updates to the correct pre-composition with the correct text (also linked to the spreadsheet.) Each Risk Warning pre-composition now has a text animator with the stroke added individually which was a simply copy/paste job really. Here’s some visuals to help bring my terrible explanation to life: [image: 1725624754817-screenshot-2024-09-06-at-13.12.29.png] Each risk warning is in its own collumn (depending on the request from the marketing team for a particular risk warning we can generate the appropriate text directly in the project file and render a batch of assets for them) [image: 1725624823130-screenshot-2024-09-06-at-13.12.54.png] This pre-composition links to the corresponding collumn in the Google Sheet and changes the Pre-comp based on the collumn we want to use [image: 1725624797552-screenshot-2024-09-06-at-13.13.13.png] Each Pre-comp is set with an animator to create the stroke giving it that ‘bold’ effect (not linked to the spreadsheet as the stroke will not change - only the text within the Google Sheet will change once per quarter (and even then it’s just 2 numbers which won’t affect which words are ‘bold’ and which are not) Thanks for your help! Jake

@pbretz make sure you are not making any modifications to Templater effect settings, which might be related to source modifications on layers. Thus, lets say you copied effect from layer X, which had a visual source. Thus, easiest to make sure it did not happened - delete and add effect again to audio.

Seems like there is no way to keep templater effect on master comp after replicating.

@Jeff Thank you Jeff for the quick reply! I have just checked another project i have been working on today, and indeed on this project the templater settings effect remained on the target composition’s inner comps’ layers after creating variants. Thats indeed odd. I will come back to you, after i encounter that strange behavior again. Perhaps will be able to pinpoint the reason aswell. I thought thats just how it was coded - that its default behavior for some reason. Apologies for the confusion.

@LukasCuprzynski To add to what Arie is saying, if only one of the five precomps are going to be visible at once, you can use a flag to switch the precomps out entirely, as if they were any other piece of pre-rendered footage, rather than having to individually tag each comp with {{off}} flags for each output. This video demonstrates the comp switching technique. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DEIg7mOR3iA

@ariestav said in Out Point Trims To -> Out Point not working on jpg files?: @1337err It might be due to images not having an inherent duration or FPS value which footage assets do. Does the same thing happen if you precompose the still image layers into pre-comp layers? Good idea, I’ll do this!

Hey @Jeff, Thanks for your detailed and super quick reply. I actually had your suggestions in mind because I watched all your YT videos and read most of the documentation. I was hoping there would be a clean solution, but using a path condition in Zapier solves the problem. However, I wasn’t able to implement a default value (Zapier passes a spacebar value alone as an empty value) - but I will use the flag option here. Thanks again—I really appreciate your time!

Thanks for the question, and welcome to our forum. Templater needs a reference to the actual asset file, as opposed to some URL hash that Google Forms creates. It is likely that you could get the reference to the uploaded asset after submitting the form. If you can write custom code to retrieve the actual URL and the insert it into the same row, that should work. We do plan on supporting hashed URLs for footage asset refs. I apologize for the disappointing info here, but there may be a third party Forms plugin that might let you get the actual URL reference to the asset. Please let us know if you have further questions! Thanks again for coming to the forum to post! Shared knowledge is good knowledge :)
